revealed that they would not be planning a public funeral for the icon. Instead, they coordinated an intimate, invitation-only homecoming ceremony to take place this Saturday—a week after Houston’s unexpected death at the age of 48—in Newark, New Jersey. Now, it turns out, the family has had a change of heart and will allow cameras to stream the event on television and the Internet so that devoted fans worldwide can eulogize the legend.

The service will begin at noon at the New Hope Baptist Church, the church where Houston sang as a child. Marvel L. Winans, a gospel singer and longtime friend of the family who officiated at Houston’s 1992 marriage to Bobby Brown, will give the eulogy. Winans appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 last night to explain that the family didn’t plan a public event because they “didn’t want to have a parade.” He added, “We loved her when she was Nippy [her childhood nickname] in New Jersey. The world loves her because of her voice. But if Nippy could not sing, the Houston family would love her.”

Houston’s godmother, Aretha Franklin, and Stevie Wonder have been asked to perform at the service. People reports that her Bodyguard co-star, Kevin Costner, and long-time record producer, Clive Davis, will speak at the funeral. Houston’s cousin Dionne Warwick is helping the family with arrangements for the event. Chaka Khan, Diane Warren, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Darlene Love, and Ray J (the rapper whom Houston had been dating before she died) are confirmed to attend. Forbes reports that Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown, will also fly in for the ceremony with his nephew Kelsey, “whom Whitney raised like a son,” according to a friend of Brown’s. It is expected that Houston will be buried in the Fair View Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey, near her father, John Russell Houston Jr., who was laid to rest in 2003.

It is not yet known which outlets will be streaming the invitation-only event this Saturday.

IEŞIM DIN CRIZĂ CU PICIOARELE ÎNAINTE

A apărut la fix. Cererea stă să explodeze, oferta e unică. Din luna mai a acestui an românii au un serviciu de preluare, înregistrare şi transmisie pe internet, în timp real, "a întregii game de servicii funerare, de la pregătirile iniţiale şi până la final". Se numeşte Funerar TV şi n-are nevoie de nicio reclamă pentru că de clienţi se ocupă cel mai mare furnizor din România, însuşi guvernul Boc.

Apariţia acestui serviciu ne sugerează de altfel şi prima soluţie de ieşire din criză. Cu picioarele înainte. Trist dar inevitabil. Unii dintre noi vor scăpa de criză odată cu viaţa. Aici ne putem imagina tot felul de scenarii.

Se moare cu zile de mulţi ani în România dar de-acum va trebui să ne aşteptăm ca acest fapt să devină fenomen. Nu te mai trimit doctorii de la un spital la altul până-ţi dai sufletul. Nu te mai trimit nicăieri pentru că nici nu vei mai ajunge la ei. Fie pentru că nu va mai avea cine să te ducă până acolo, fie pentru că nu vei mai avea bani de medicamente sau de tratament.

Partea bună pentru stat e că dispar vinovaţii: medicii, asistentele, şoferii de salvări etc. Va exista doar unul moral, guvernul, pe care însă nu-l poţi trage la răspundere pentru că nicio instanţă nu te va lua în serios. Dincolo de cinismul unei asemenea perspective, ceea ce te scoate din minţi la actuala putere e primitivismul cu care abordează problema.

Da, există în România pensii de lux dar soluţia nu e să iei de la toată lumea pentru că pe unii, care n-au nicio vină, îi condamni pur şi simplu la moarte. Da, statul român e supradimensionat, avem o birocraţie infernală, cheltuielile cu întreţinerea ei sunt de nesuportat, dar asta nu înseamnă că trebuie să-i aduci pe toţi la un nivel la care distrugi practic însăşi ideea de stat funcţional.

Nu vorbesc aici de cei, puţini, care trăiesc oricum din şpăgi grase, de clientela politică, de sinecuriştii puterii. Vorbesc de sutele de mii de funcţionari fără de care mecanismul administrativ n-are cum să funcţioneze. Pe aceştia-i omoară guvernul Boc. Ceilalţi se descurcă oricum. Pe aceştia însă nu te vei mai putea baza în nici un fel. Un funcţionar care nu are din ce să trăiască devine un adversar al statului. La fel şi cu ceilalţi bugetari.

Mare parte a personalului medical din România nu trăieşte din salariul de nimic de la stat ci din ce primesc pe lângă, de la pacienţi. Dar pacienţii nu vor mai avea nici ei de unde să le dea. Profesorii, cadrele didactice în general, au salarii de mizerie dar puţini mai pot câştiga ceva în plus. Reducându-le acum şi bruma de venit pe care o aveau ai distrus practic întreg sistemul de educaţie. Cei mai buni îşi vor căuta ocupaţii mai decente în afara sistemului, tinerii competenţi care ar putea să le ia locul vor emigra în masă. Educaţia va deveni o bătaie de joc la adresa viitorului. Aici e nebunia pe care actuala putere o pune la cale.

Când te uiţi doar la cifre şi uiţi că în spatele lor sunt nişte oameni cu limitele lor biologice şi un sistem care de la un punct încolo devine practic un anti-sistem, se cheamă că nu înţelegi nimic sau că nu te interesează nimic. Soluţia actualei puteri la criza prin care trece România e să-şi omoare o parte din cetăţeni sub justificarea că-s prea scumpi şi să transforme statul într-o junglă din care scapă cine poate pe cont propriu. Asta nu e politică ci barbarism.
